Wererats in the sewers – a level 1 adventure

There has been a rat infestation within the town. Further investigation will lead the party into the sewers where a wererat guild has set up base, but is ready to move to a new location to obtain more members. The rats who join do the bidding of wererats.

Prep;
Use city/hub map, make sewer system if one doesn’t exist.
The guild has 1d6(4) wererats within it. The guild also has moved a few times and will have 1d4 abandoned lairs. These are littered with rat droppings, rat skeletons, and maybe a humanoid skeleton.
The rats mostly travel in packs, but some have stragglers.

Rat: 335
Swarm of rats: 339

Plot:
The leader of the pack is Mallick Quintel. He wears an eyepatch that he uses to see in the darkness of the sewer, but can fully see when the eyepatch is removed. Due to this, he can get 30 additional feet of sight with Darkvision for 2 turn by using an action to remove the eyepatch. He carries a scimitar with no sheath, which differentiates him from the others, who only have short swords or 2 daggers.
    Mallick tends to stick in hybrid form, even when outside. He also wears a dirty, torn up trench coat. It was once tan, but now is brown, black, and moldy. Some of the pockets are broken and don’t hold anything but the illusion of a place for a hand to go.
    Due to their nature and environment, the wererat gang is able to use anything inside of the sewers as a makeshift weapon (1d4 damage), whether it be a brick or a torn up piece of paper, they can weaponize it. The guild has a well-established knowledge of the sewers and have been in every nook and cranny, so hiding and running are not viable options.
    The sewers are dark with occasional spots of light from storm drains that light up 30ft radial with bright or dim light, depending on the time of day. The guild will usually set up camp under a manhole cover, but not always.
The Guild’s goal is to collect every rat in the city and then unleash them again, trained and ready to spread plague and illness as they travel the lands, destroying anything in their wake.
